How hygienic is Sage Surfaces solid surface?

Sage Surfaces solid surface is nonporous, so germs can't penetrate. Also, if you choose a Sage Surfaces integrated sink, there are no sink lips where germs can hide.

Is there any special cleaning or care needed for my Sage Surfaces solid surface countertop?

No. Due to its non-porous attribute, there is no wax or sealant required. Solid surface can be cleaned with soapy water or an ammonia-based cleanser. Rinse and wipe dry. Avoid using strong acidic cleansers (like those designed for drains, toilets or ovens). Some of them can cause whitening, which can be difficult to remove.

Do Sage Surfaces solid surface countertops stain?

Sage Surfaces solid surface is nonporous, so it's naturally stain-resistant. Stains just can't penetrate the acrylic solid surface. And unlike granite solid surface never needs to be periodically sealed to resist stains.

What if I scratch my Sage Surfaces solid surface countertop?

Don't panic. Your Sage Surfaces solid surface countertop is completely renewable. Usually, just buffing with a Scotch-Brite™ pad will remove all but the deepest scratches. For deep scratches (cuts), gouges, and chips, please contact your Sage Surfaces solid surface certified fabricator installer. In most instances, your countertop can be restored to its original state.

Can I use my solid surface countertop as a cutting board?

No, the use of a separate cutting board is recommended.

How can I prevent heat damage to my Sage Surfaces solid surface countertop?

By not placing hot pans or pots directly on your Sage Surfaces solid surface countertop. The use of hot pads and/or trivets is recommended. Prolonged or extreme heat can cause discoloration.

Do solid surface countertops have seams?

If seams are necessary, placement will be at the fabricator’s discretion. Sage Surfaces solid surface seams will be inconspicuous (not invisible).

Do dark colors show wear and tear?

Dark colors of any solid surface require more maintenance and cleaning. Under everyday use darker colors will show dust, rubs, fingerprints, scratches and watermarks easier than lighter color patterns.

How do I clean my Sage Surfaces solid surface sink?

The same way you clean your countertop. Or use Soft Scrub liquid cleanser and a gray Scotch-Brite™ pad. Rub over the entire sink to blend in the finish.

How do I clean my Sage Surfaces stainless steel sink?

After each use, rinse thoroughly. To minimize mineral deposits or water spotting, wipe the sink dry with a clean, soft cloth. Avoid any abrasive cleaners such as steel wool or scrub pads, as this will dull the finish. Avoid having household cleaning agents such as bleach sit in the sink as this may damage the finish. Stainless steel doesn’t rust; however, use of appropriate stainless steel sink cleaning agents is recommended for removing various surface residues.

Routine Cleaning

  1. Remove dirt and residue with soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner. Rinse and wipe dry.
  2. Prevent hard water marks by wiping surfaces dry after spills or cleaning. Ordinary vinegar removes most dried water spots.
  3. Remove stubborn stains with a diluted mixture of water and bleach or denatured alcohol on a cotton cloth. Rinse with water and wipe dry. Avoid strong acidic products such as toilet or oven cleaners.
  4. Disinfect by wiping surfaces with mixture of one part water/one part household bleach. Rinse with clear water and wipe dry.
  5. Clean Integrated sinks the same way you clean your countertop. Or use Soft Scrub liquid cleanser and a gray Scotch-Brite pad. Rub over the entire sink to blend in the finish.

Preventing Damages

  1. Prevent heat damage by using trivets or hot pads under hot objects and electronic cookware. Prolonged or extreme heat can cause discoloring.
  2. Prevent other damage by not exposing your countertop to strong chemicals, such as paint removers, oven cleaners, etc. If contact does occur, rinse immediately and thoroughly with clear water. If you spill nail polish, remove it with a non-acetone polish remover. Don’t cut directly on your solid surface countertop, rather use a cutting board. Always run your faucet while pouring boiling water down solid surface sinks.
  3. Remove minor cuts & scratches yourself with abrasive Scotch-Brite pads. Roughest to finest are green, peach, lilac, blue and gray. Start with a green pad. Wet the surface and rub in a small circular motion over the scratch or cut. Rinse pad periodically. When the scratch or cut is removed, wet the surface again and rub with progressively finer pads in larger and larger circles until the renewed area blends in with the surrounding surface. Rinse with clear water and wipe dry. Rinse pads and air dry before storing. For deep cuts/gouges, please contact your certified fabricator installer. In most instances solid surface is repairable but will require the expertise of a fabricator.

    Cleaning

Since solid surface is nonporous, it is a popular choice for healthcare facilities around the world. Solid Surface countertops lock out liquid, bacteria, mold and mildew, and prevent it from penetrating the surface. It does not harbor bacteria and is hygienic.

It is easily cleaned with warm soapy water, or an ammonia-based cleaner. Stubborn stains can be removed with a diluted mixture of water and bleach, or denatured alcohol, on a cotton cloth. Once you’ve completed cleaning, rinse with water and wipe dry. Please note that it is important to avoid strong acidic products, such as toilet or oven cleaners, as these may damage your countertop.

    Disinfecting

The following disinfectants are approved to use on solid surface.

    • MonoFoil D Multi-Surface Disinfectant which reports to kill 99.9% of bacteria when used as directed.
    • Weiman Granite & Stone Daily Cleaner & Shine which reports to kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria when used as directed.
